Some colorful highlights found in Little Calumet Headwaters State Dedicated Nature Preserve.

Beechdrops
Epifagus virginiana

is parasitic on beech tree roots and does not grow without them.

Bellwort
Uvularia grandiflora

has yellow bell-shaped flowers. It brightens moist, thick woodlands.

Spotted coralroot
Corallorrhiza maculata

is an orchid found mainly in northern counties. It grows in black, and white oak woods.

Swamp thistle
Cirsium muticum

is found in bogs, marshes, swamps, and fens. It is not a common plant.
