Our Mission

The parks department is committed to preserving and protecting its natural environment. Through various conservation initiatives, we strive to make La Porte County parks and trails safe and enjoyable places for everyone. Our staff works hard to keep the grounds clean, maintain trails, and protect wildlife. The La Porte County Parks Department is a great place for those who love nature and outdoor recreation. So come out and explore all of what this beautiful county has to offer!

Bluhm County Park

(Open Dawn to Dusk Daily)

Donated in 1992, by the Gayle and Lucille Bluhm. The Park includes 96 acres of spring wildflowers, upland forest, wetland, prairie, and a pond.

Creek Ridge County Park

(Open Dawn to Dusk Daily)

This park land is leased from the state and was dedicated in 1992. Creek Ridge encompasses 112 acres and is located just south of Michigan City.

Luhr County Park

(Open Dawn to Dusk Daily)

(Nature Center open 1pm to 4pm Tuesday & Thursday; 10am to 4pm Wednesday and Friday)

Located on 94 acres just south of LaPorte, Luhr Park features four ecosystems: upland forest, wetland, prairie and stocked pond.

Red Mill County Park

(Open Dawn to Dusk Daily)

(Park Office open 7am to 3pm M-F)

 

Located on 160 acres just south of Michigan City off U.S. Highway 421, this 160-acre park opened June 29, 2002. The park offers multi-use trails for hiking and mountain biking, fishing, and more.

Sebert Woods County Park

(Open to Dawn to Dusk Daily)

This park is a dedicated state nature preserve of 40 acres. It contains a 1/2 mile loop dirt trail through a boreal forest relic containing many different species of plants.

Kankakee Property

This property is for animals only but does have a primitive campsite that is accessible by river only.

Shelter Rental

Call (219) 325-8315 or (219) 325-8316 for information on how to reserve a shelter or Hall.

  • Alcoholic beverages are NOT allowed at any county park.
  • All charges must be paid at time of reservation.
  • Outdoor Shelters are available April 1 – October 31 (Water not available at shelters November – April).
